Prospect Hill

Besides providing a spectacular view of the tri-state area, Prospect Hill features a monument that was erected in memory of three pioneer missionaries. These men, Reverends Jackson, Cleveland, and Elliot were on their way to the west to teach Christianity. All of the members of the Sioux City settlement were asked to attend a prayer meeting on this hill. The monument was built later to commemorate this event.

According to local legend, Prospect Hill was also the place where Joseph Leonais rode over the edge of the cliff after leaving a celebration at the Bruguier farm.

Before becoming a city park in 1902, Prospect Terrace was the site of the beer garden of Doss & Gertz in 1868.
