History at High Noon: How the Neighborhoods Got Their Names

  • Sioux City Public Museum 607 4th Street Sioux City, IA, 51101 United States (map)

Have you ever wondered where the “green” in Greenville comes from? Or who decided to call it the “Bottoms”? And where exactly was “Hell’s Half Acre”?

Greenville along Correctionville Road, 1920s

In this presentation, Archival Records Clerk Haley Aguirre will explore these questions and more by giving an overview of Sioux City’s many iconic neighborhoods: where they are, who named them, and what these names mean. This program will feature historic maps and photographs of both present and past neighborhoods within the city limits.
